Chilly nights, hot afternoons and strong winds forecast over coming week

Intermittent cloudiness and cool weather will also affect parts of the Central Highlands, South-eastern Lowlands, Western Kenya, and the Rift Valley, limiting sunshine hours during mornings.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned residents to prepare for a mix of rains, cold nights, hot afternoons, and strong winds across different parts of the country over the coming week.

The forecast covers the final week of August, with varying weather conditions expected across regions.

The department said showers will continue over the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and parts of North-western Kenya, though both the intensity and coverage of rainfall are likely to gradually reduce compared to previous weeks.

Intermittent cloudiness and cool weather will also affect parts of the Central Highlands, South-eastern Lowlands, Western Kenya, and the Rift Valley, limiting sunshine hours during mornings.

“Expect highs above 30° C in much of North-eastern and North-western Kenya,” the Met warned, adding that residents in these areas should prepare for hot afternoons.

Meanwhile, chilly nights will dominate the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro, with minimum temperatures potentially dropping below 10°C.

The department also cautioned that strong southerly to south-easterly winds blowing at speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are expected along the Coast, Kenya’s territorial waters, the South-eastern Lowlands, North-eastern, and North-western regions.

Residents in coastal and semi-arid areas were urged to stay alert for wind-related disruptions.

Farmers and herders have been advised to take note of these weather patterns as they may affect agricultural activities and livestock management.

The Met emphasised vigilance in preparing for both the changing temperatures and rainfall patterns to minimise possible impacts on daily life and livelihoods.
